Android, unveiled in 2007, is the mobile operating system owned by Google and is primarily for mobile devices with touchscreens such as smartphones and tablets. It's no secret that Android is in direct competition with Apple's iOS mobile operating system (iPhone and iPad). The Android OS is Linux-based and partly open source, which is more similar to a PC than the iOS. Android is now the world's most-used smartphone platform, which is used by several different types of phone manufacturers. IOS, however, is only used on Apple devices.

Besides leading the way for tablet growth, Android expected to harness 80% of global smartphone usage by 2016, which GlobalWebIndex shows to be a 20% increase from today's current Android user population. Again, currently, the North American market favours iOS, with 53% smartphone domination. ANDROID OR IOS? WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
